If you have bought a new barcode or QR code scanner and want to use it for the first time, it is possible that a printed article label will not be recognized and read. In this case, the scanner is still set to the American keyboard layout. Instead of a hash (#), the scanner reads the paragraph character (§).

Download your scanner manual and search for "keyboard" or "keyboard language". In most cases, the manufacturer offers the option of changing the keyboard layout to "German", e.g.:
